IPL3. Day.20.Match 29. Delhi Daredevils Vs Rajasthan Royals

Delhi Daredevils 188 for 6 beat Rajasthan Royals 131 all out by 67 runs. in the return match also, to make it 2 on 2 against the Royals in IPL3.

Devils won the toss and elected to bat. They lost three wickets Warner, Sehwag and Collingwood with in the first 6 overs. Kedar Jhadav followed shortly after for 10 of 7. Gambhir at this stage was joined by his deputy Dinesh Kartik. They took the Rajasthan Royals apart through some sensible batting. Gambhir was taken by Yusuf of Nariwal for a polished 43 of 37. But the day belonged to Dinesh Kartik. He plundered runs at will and was out the last ball for an excellent 69 of 37. Nariwal with 3 and Tait & Trivedi with one each were among the wickets. Tait was taken to the cleaners, particularly by Kartik to finish with

Rajasthan Royals just went through the motions and finsihed at 121 all out, loosing by 67 runs.
Marginal contributions came from N.Ojha 27 of 14, Voges 15 of 27, Yusuf 24 of 14 and P.Dogra 20 of 25. All the Delhi Daredevil bowlers had reasonable figures. Maharoof, Mc Donald and Amit Mishra were the pick of the bowlers. Ladda,Collingwood amd Sehwag had a wicket each. Over all a match devoid of any interest or purpose.

Royals, what went wrong with you today ? Why such pathetic display ?

IPL3. Day20. Match 28. Royal Challengers Vs Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings 165 for five in 19.1 overs beat Royal Challengers 161 for 4 by four wickets, to keep alive their faint chance of entering the semi finals.
After four home ground loses, Chennai Super Kings restricted Royal Challengers to a reasonable 161 for 4. Kallis made 52 of 49, Uthappa 21 of 11 Virat Kohli 34 of 24, Pietersen 23 of 14 and Cameron White 21 of 13. Had it not been a whirlwind partnership of 44 in 27 between Pietersen and White, Royal Challengers would not have crossed even 140. Jataki was the pick of the Chennai bowlers and bowled brilliantly for 2 wickets for 17 in 4 overs. Murali again spun his web and finished at
In Chennai innings, Hayden failed again and did not live up to his standards. Vijay and Raina held together the Chennai innings. Murali Vijay made an entertaining 78 of 39 before holing out at long on. Raina comfortably finished the match with a lofted four to remain unbeaten on 44 of 35 . Dhoni was patchy for his 14 of 19.

Chennai won the match alright, but they have a long way to go. They have won due to individual brilliance rather than team effort. They have to get their homework right, and perform as a team for any hope in the tournament.

All the best Chennai Chennai Super Kings, after all you are one of my favourites

IPL3. Exxxtraaa Innings - Clever Aussie & Pommie

Oh! the clever Aussie & Pommie

As IPL3 drives in to the speed way, the Aussie and Pommies promptly arrive. To name a few Pommies and Aussies - Collingwood, Pietersen, David Hussey,Shaun Marsh, Bret Lee, Aaron Finch, Cameron White, George Bailey, the list can be endless. Mind you WC.T20 is just around the corner and the timing is just right for some match play, understand opponent players and styles, be match fit and peak at the right time and make money in the bargain too.
Hold your IPL, after an important schedule like WC T20. You will find all the contracted players play from match one irrespective of whether their country has an agenda of their own or not.
IPL Think & Act. After all you generate the money & you can definitely have your say. If the boards, come your way, do not worry all the players will tamely follow you. After all it is $$ $$MOOLAH $$

IPL3. Day 19. Match 27. Mumbai Indians Vs Kings XI

Match between Table Toppers & Wooden Spooners. Mumbai Indians 164 for six beat Kings XI Punjab 163 all out by four wickets.

Mumbai Indians kept their winning streak, winning 4th match in a row and 6 out of seven to be at top again with 12 points. Batting first Kings XI made a fighting 163 thanks to a quickfire 57 of 47 by the Aussie Shaun Marsh, and a late order fighting innings of 22 by Piyush Chawla.

Malinga was at his brilliant best with Zaheer fired again with Two run outs and a wicket by Bravo, completed the ten wicket haul.

Kings XI, fought as if their life depended on a win. Mumbai Indians Wobbled a bit with the dismissals of Tendulakar and Pollard at the top of the order. The young guns Saurab Tiwary 31 of 21 balls and Satish unbeaten on 17 of 9 balls , took Mumbai Indians through in the 19.3 over.
Bopara, Irfan Pathan Piyush and Srivatsava were among the wickets.

Sachin has moulded a good outfit. The team is performing and failure of the top order do not deter the young ones. Well done MI, I have put all my money on you.

IPL3. Day.18. Match 26. Delhi Daredevils Vs Kolkatta Knight Riders

Delhi Daredevils 177 for 4 beat Kolkatta Knight Riders 137 for 9 by 40 runs.

Delhi Daredevils batting first were shaken in the first three overs loosing Sehwag for 8, Gambhir for 1 and Dinesh Kartik for nothing. Warner on the other side was going hammer and tongs. At 38 for 3, Collingwood joined Warner and the pair added 128 runs for the fourth wicket, which was a record in IPL. Collingwood made a polished 53 in 45 deliveries, before holing out to a out of the world catch by Hussey. The ball was travelling beyond the boundary, Hussey pulled the ball back as he was going over the ropes. As the ball was in mid air, Hussey jumped back and took the ball in the air and landed within the boundary. A catch one should have seen to believe.
Warner remained unbeaten on a classic 107 of 69 deliveries, the second century in IPL3.
DD finished at 177 for 4. Langelveldt took 2 for 35 and Gayle and Ishant took a wicket each. Ishant was given just one over, not that the other bowlers did well. As usual Murli Kartik was the most economical bowler at, and this bowler was not given a look by the selectors for WC.T20.
KKR did nothing of note in reply and were just swept out for 137 for 9, giving Devils a 40 runs victory. Gayle went for 30 of 21, Hussey 29 of 32 and Angelo 24 of 21. All the Daredevil bowlers were amongst the wickets. Mc Donald and Uday Yadav took two wickets each. Nennes, Bhatia,Amit Mishra and Collingwood chipped in with a wicket each. Amit Mishra bowled a brilliant spell of I see no reason why Mishra has been left out of WC T20. To top it the bowler to get in was Chawla, who has been pathetic in IPL3.
So at Half way mark, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers, Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals, are better placed for the semi final spot. Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab does not appear to have any chance at this stage.

IPL3. Day 17. Match.25. Mumbai Indians Vs Deccan Chargers

Mumbai Indians 172 for 7 made a mincemeat of the Deccan Chargers 131 all out in 17.4 overs, and ran away with a huge 41 run victory.

Shikar Dhawan fell early. Bravo and Tendulkar built up a reasonable partnership and were at 63 for 1 at the end of 7th over. R.P Singh picked up two wickets in the 8th and MI lost wickets regularly. Their score read a miserable 100 for 6 at 15th.

At this stage an avalanche hit Deccan Chargers. In the last five overs, they were blasted for 72 runs for the loss of one wicket. In fact 52 runs came of the last three. Tendulkar played a grand 55 of 43. I saw a one liner in the face book from an young enthusiast, which read, when Sachin is in a song, every other team goes wrong. How apt. Bajji played a memorable 49 of 17 deliveries with 8 fours and 2 sixers. MI finished at 172 for 7. Of the Chargers bowlers R.P.Singh with 3 for 31, Jaskaran with 2 for 30 and Ojha with 2 for 24 were among the wickets.

Deccan Chargers were knocked out by Bajji and they started with a mental block. Gilchrist was taken in the slips by Tendulkar of Bajji for nought, in the second ball. Gibbs with 27 of 16 and Rohit Sharma with 45 of 28 were the only worthwhile contributors. Zaheer with 3 for 21, Harbhajan with 3 for 31 and Malinga with 3 for 12. tore through the Chargers batting lineup.
Deccan were bowled out for 131 in 17.4 overs and lost the match by 41 runs.
Come on Mumbai and Sachin. In you we see a potential winner of IPL3.

IPL3. Day.17. Match.24. Rajasthan Royals Vs Chennai Super Kings

Rajasthan Royals 177 for 8 beat Chennai Super Kings 160 for 6 by 17 runs, for their fourth straight win.

Royals batting first posted a fighting 177 for 8. The day belonged to N.Ojha, who blasted an entertaining 80 of 49. Lumb with 30 of 17, Voges 20 of 19 were the other contributors. Yusuf failed making 8 of 6 with a lofted six over Long On. Royals should have finished at around 185-190, but for some unnecessary run outs in the 20th over. From 170 for 5 in 19, they finished at 177 for 8 in 20. Chennai Super Kings bowled with in limits. Morkel with, Sri Lankan Tushara with and Jakati with were among the wickets
Hayden started of as if he had a flight to catch to Sydney. He perished after making 19 of 14, caught & bowled by Yusuf. Vijay made a brisk 42 of 28, carting Nariwal for sixers. He was run out by a direct throw from Yusuf, trying an impossible single. Raina was bowled for 14/12, trying to hit out a Warn leg spinner, from outside the off stump.
Dhoni who was as usual pacing the game well, was foolishly run out by his partner Badri. Badri has been instrumental in running out a partner in every match he has played. This must be some sort of a record. Albie Morkel made 28 of 12, before holing out to Faiz Fazal of Tait. Badri was caught by Yusuf of Tait for a scratchy 25 of 27. Tait bowled with fire claiming 2 of 22, Yusuf and Warne claimed a wicket each. Yusuf was instrumental in a catch, in a wicket and two run outs. What a utility cricketer to have in a T20 game.
Chennai Kings have totally lost their way, and have to get back to the drawing Board. With the half way mark already past, it is almost impossible for them to get back anywhere near the top four. In such a situation, it would be advisable for Dhoni & Raina to sit out and be fit for WC T20.
Talking about WC T20. Are you aware two of the bowlers selected for the Indian Team Piyush Chawla & Praveen Kumar lead the list of bowlers, who have been carted for maximum sixers :-)

IPL3. Day 16. Match.23. Kolkatta Knight Riders Vs. Kings XI Punjab

Match of the back benchers. Kolkatta Knight Riders 183 for 5 beat Kings XI Punjab 144 for 6 by 39 runs. Kolkatta Knight Riders are back on track.

KKR batting first made a spirited 183 for 5. Ganguly for the first time in the IPL3. played fluently for his 4th fifty in IPL. In fact this fifty of 40 deliveries, came after his third fifty in 2008.Manoj Tiwary played beautifully for his unbeaten 75 in 47. Shrivatsava and Irfan Pathan claimed 2 wickets each and Piyush Chawla selected for WC T20, over Amit Mishra bowled miserably for Lee in his first match was off colour with Irfan at, gave away his usual quota of runs.

Kings XI in their turn had nothing to offer and lost tamely by 39 runs. Kings XI seem to be just going through the motions. There were nothing of note other than a short cameo from Irfan Pathan scoring 22 of 14. Seven bowlers were in view from KKR. Bond bowled with venom Agarkar picked up two at Mathews and Gayle had one each. The match was so boring, there is really nothing to write about. Of the Srilankans, Mahela is woefully out of form and really need a rest. Sangakara is nowhere at his best. His captaincy was also clueless.

Any way an advise to Kings XI owners. You are all industrialists. Your stocks in IPL have plummeted and have reached the stop loss stage. Exit that this stage. As far as the Indian WC T20 team is concerned, two non performers from Kings XI, Yuvraj and Piyush Chawla are in the team and should thank their lucky stars. My heart once again bleeds for good performers like Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, Saurab Tiwary and Amit Mishra, who lost the bus for no fault of theirs, where as some continue because of the big name they carry. Sorry state of affairs.

IPL3-Day 15. Match22. Deccan Chargers Vs Rajasthan Royals

Royals are back. At their backyard in Ahemedabad, they systematically annihilated Deccan Chargers.

DC won the toss and elected to bat on a batting beauty. Gilchrist perished in the first over caught brilliantly by Yosuf of Narwal for 1. Lakshman prodded for his 10 in 12. Lakshman accept the fact. Whereas you are a good Test Match player, limited over games are not your cup of tea.

Gibbs and Symmonds steadied the batting making 25 of 14 and 22 of 14. Gibbs was foxed by a Warne Googly to be stumped, Symmonds fell for a direct throw from long on. I wonder what Rohit has done in IPL or for that matter in limited over cricket in recent times to command a place in the Indian team. Two good players in form, Virat and Manish Pandey or for that matter even Saurab Tiwary lost their place in the Indian T20 team. Rohit once again scratched a 49 of 45 with streaky shots and a life. DC finished at 148 fr 9.

For Royals Tait, Narwal and Warne were among wickets. Narwal bowled well for, Tait at his fast best of and Warne with his magical Brilliant fielding resulted in 3 run outs.

Royals scored 151 for 2 and won by 8 wickets in 15.4 overs. Lumb scored a quickfire 45 in 32 and Yousuf bulldozed to an unbeaten 73 of 24 with 8 sixes. Nothing of note in bowling front by DC. On this day they were outplayed in all respects, which Gilchrist acknowledged with all grace in the post match interview.

The Royals have started peaking and with Aaron Finch the 23 year old, hard hitting Victorian, joining them in place of Smith, they look a strong outfit for top finish now. Do well Royals, I always admired your team which boasted of no stars, but still gave it's best.

IPL3-Day.14. Match.21- Chennai Super Kings Vs Mumbai Indians

As the games are entering the third week of the competition, teams are planning the game professionally. Chennai Super Kings, who were heavily dependent on Hayden and his magic, played with purpose in spite of Hayden given out LBW to Bajji for a quick 20 of 12. The ball was outside the line of off stump at the time of impact. A dubious decision. Parthiv left early too playing on a McLaren yorker on to the stumps for 8.

Raina and Badri played out a great unbroken, record partnership of 142 runs of 91 Balls. There were no massive hits. Each and every stroke was played with merit. Raina made 83 of 52 and Badri a more sedate 55 of 45. Chennai Super Kings finished at a respectable 180 for 2 .
Excepting Harbhajan & McLaren, all the other bowlers went for plenty.Zaheer a colourless, Bravo and Malinga Malinga's figures would have been worse, but for his 4th and team's 20th, only 7 runs were scored.
With the master blaster in your side and in sublime form, the opponents can just be spectators. Sachin made a steady unbeaten 72 in 52 deliveries. MI had a dream start, with Shikar Dhawan blasting away 56 of 34 deliveries. Balaji and Joginder Sharma were taken to the cleaners. At one stage Mumbai Indians were 133 for 3 in 15, with about 50 to get at 10 per over. A Perera over at this stage when he was carted for 19 runs, made it easy for the Mumbai Indians. With Pollard making a brisk 20 of 9 and Bravo 14 of 7, The game was over in the 19th over. Mumbai Indians won by 5 wkts
Perhaps Dhoni should have tried an over or two by man in form Suresh Raina. You never know.
In any case Chennai Super Kings do not have the fire power and are rightly placed in the bottom.

IPL3-Day14.Match 20. Delhi Daredevils Vs Royal Challengers

Royal Challengers won the toss and elected to field. A whirlwind start from Warner 33 of 14 and a serene partnership between ABD & Dinesh gave rhythm to Daredevil's batting. But the showman of the innings was undoubtedly Jhadav. Where was this boy in the earlier matches. Peach of an innings of 50 in 29, clouting all including Anil Kumble, Steyn. Praveen and Vinay. ABD made 45 of 35 and Dinesh Kartik 17 of 19. McDonald finished with a well made 18 of 12. Delhi Daredevils finished at 183 for 4.
All the bowlers were taken apart. The analysis read, Praveen, Steyn, Kallis , Vinay and Kumble
Till now Royal Challengers have chased well and 184 should not have been dificult. In spite of a good start by Manish Pandey 39 of 24 and Kallis 27 of 29, all others played with out a plan. Uthappa played to the galleries rather than to the team's cause. He perished for 15 of 10. Morgan was brilliantly run out for 17. Virat Kohli used the long handle at the end to finish at an unbeaten 38 of 23. Challengers made 165 for 9 and lost the match 18 runs.
Amit Mishra was the pick of the bowlers, controlling the mid overs. He finished with
U.Yadav supported well with and Mc Donald
Dare Devils are back with a good win. Now with Gambhir and Nehra back & young Kedar Jhadav showing how good a material he is, DD will be high on confidence.

IPL3. Exxxtraaa Innings- World Cup T20. Team India

The 'D'' day is nearing for the team selection by Srikanth & Co.
I have the following team in mind

1. Mahinder Singh Dhoni ( Captain) WK
2. Manish Pandey
3. Viredra Sehwag
4. Virat Kohli / Saurab Tiwary
5. Robin Uthappa
6. Suresh Raina
7. Rohit Sharma/ Gautam Ghambir ( If Fit)
8. Yuvraj Singh ( If Fit)/ Manvinder Bisla
9. Yousuf Pathan/Rajagopal Satish
10.Ravindra Jadeja
11.Zaheer Khan
12. Praveen Kumar
13. Shantakumaran Sreesanth
14. Vinay Kumar/Sudeep Tyagi
15.Harbhajan Singh
16. Murli Kartik
Note : Sachin should not play even if persuaded/requested. He is a master batsman, and a short term failure did not find him a place in T20. 2007. SACHIN SHOULD JUST REFUSE.

As a after thought ' SACHIN FORGET AND FORGIVE ' We want to see you in WCT20.

Any suggestions.

IPL3. Day 13. Match 19. Rajasthan Royals Vs Kings XI

Kings XI won the toss and on a batting beauty, Sangakara asked Royals to bat. The Aussie touch of professionalism was seen in Royals approach today. There were no slam bang stuff. Almost all the shots were out of the cricket book. Lumb 41 out of 30, Yousuf 28 out of 19, Fazal 45 out of 38 and Adam Vogues 45 out of 24, all contributed for a team total of 183 for 5.

Sreesanth bowled sensibly and with fire for Piyush bowled intelligently for, and Juan Theron on a consistent line at . As usual Irfan was inconsistent and conceded 45 runs with out a wicket in four. Shrivatsava gave away 50 in four for a wicket. Two run outs of Dogra and Fazal were by Piyush, who was brilliant in the field.
Kings XI started off brilliantly with hurricane knocks by Sangakara 29 of 13 and 35 of 18 by Bisla. Bopara made a patient 25 of 26. At 102 for 2 of ten overs, it appeared as if everything was over for the Royals. Astute captaincy by Warne, accurate bowling by young Trivedi, excellent middle over bowling by the spinners Voges and Yousuf, supported by all fielders with good catching, brought down Kings XI for a miserable 152 all out. Royals won the match comfortably by 31 runs. Trivedi was the pick of the bowlers at Tait took 3 for 22 of 3.1 and Yousuf picked up 2 for 9 runs in 2 overs.

Kings XI just does not have it in them to win matches. May be Preity should keep herself away from the dugout and stay put in the box. For any chance to be in the top four finishers, Kings XI should win at least 70 % of the remaining matches, which appear to be a tall order now. Any way this is T 20 and things can change overnight.

IPL3. Day 13. Exxxtraaa Innings - IPEL ?

I was just getting to wish every one in IPL a Happy Sri Rama Navami, and browsing for a good layout of Sri Rama, I hit upon a humour site
You must see it particularly on the one of IPEL. It was humorous and thought provoking . See it for yourself.

May Rama bless all of us with many more years of Cricket. After all with so much of cricket and player burnout, Rama's blessing is definitely required.

Bye for now

IPL3. Day12. Match 18. Royal Challengers Vs Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field. Excellent spells by Morkel, Tyagi and Murli, were supported poorly in the field. The fielding was school boyish. I am sorry even the school children field better. Gallore of dropped catches, worst being Ashwin and Murli Vijay, unimaginative end overs by Balaji and Ashwin , helped Uthappa to slogg away 68 in 38 balls. From 130 for 5 in the 18th over, RC finished at 171 for 5. The last twelve deliveries read 4,6,6,6,1,1,1,1,6,1,6,2.

When the initial overs were intelligently bowled by Morkel,Tyagi and Murli, Raina should have retained the last end overs for the better bowlers in the day. Any way the damage was done, and CSK faced a daunting task of 172 runs in 20 overs to gain two pints.
It appeared Kallis was well caught of a fine nick in the first over faced from Morkel. The noise around the stadium was immense and the umpire did not hear the fine sound of the nick, which was reasonably clear in the video footage. Kallis however did not last long and had a lacklustre day stroking 19 of 17.

Failure of Kallis exposed the shortcomings of the middle order. Uthappa should have been taken when on 5 dropped by Ashwin at long off. Had Uthappa gone early, RC would not have reached 100 even. Dravid made a scratchy 14. Kohli played well for his 24 of 15 before getting stumped of Murali's magic. Morgan perished early before the Uthappa/Boucher partnership hammered out the bowlers all round the field.

When Chennai Super Kings came out to bat, perhaps they left behind their brains in their respective kits. Most disorganised batting display. An excellent captaincy by the evergreen Kumble. Steyn at his express best, Vinay workman like, Praveen with his usual control at & Kumble at Chennai Super Kings folded to a pathetic 135 for 7 leaving the Royals victorious by 36. runs.
Srikanth & Co will really find it difficult to select a team for World T20, from the performances of the probables in IPL3. They five wise men probably have to base their selection on past performances and the fitness factors. Do not be broken hearted, if even Bangladesh throws some surprises.

IPL3. Day 12- Exxxtraaa Innings - Pinky Pinky Ponky-

Breaking News:

An MCC representative, will this week end be in India to oversee IPL teams in action using pink cricket balls. The Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers will be undertaking practice sessions with the pink ball. MCC Law's and Universities manager Fraser Stewart will be supervising proceedings and collect feed back from players into the possibility using pink balls instead of white.

If this happens, it will open out further opportunities for IPL, in terms of higher viewership and revenue. IPL can contemplate

To make pitches in contrast colours say blue, Green, yellow so the the ball visibility becomes still better. New colourful pitches, will increase video footage. Result higher revenue again.

The bats now can change over their colours too. The bat colours can match the moods, like green for envy, yellow for fear etc. Use green bat, when batting in partnership with Tendulkar. Use Yellow bat say when facing Steyn or a Lee and their short pitched stuff thrown at 150 kmph.
( Yuvraj, Raina to note). Opportunities for ad companies to add colour to their footage. Increased viewership, monies again.

If you let your imagination to run wild, you could really think about many areas of interest.
Send me all your views so that I could consolidate and send them to IPL,BCCI,MCC.
Reported in coluor to match the mood. (Webdings)

Reported in colour to match the mood. (Arial)

Signing of for now.

IPL3. Day 11. Match 17. KKR Vs MI

Mumbai Indians 156 for 3 beat Kolkatta Knight Riders 155 for 3 by seven wickets, to seal their 3rd victory in four matches vaulting to the top of the table.
Ganguly won the toss and elected to bat first. His post toss judgement that the ball will come slow of the wicket and keep low in the later half was just right. Gayle joined the squad and batted upfront with Ganguly. Their play was steady but not spectacular. Ganguly made 34 of 14 and Gayle 75 of 60. Owasis made a compact 31 of 23. KKR finished their quota of 20 overs at 155 for 3. Ganguly playing upfront mystifies me. He is much slower now and the graceful pulls and lofted shots dancing down the wicket are missing. Mumbai Indians bowled and fielded professionally. Zaheer was the pick of the lot with an excellent spell of Harbajan bowled his 4 overs tightly and finished at

Mumbai Indians did not repeat the mistake committed against Royal Challengers. Tendulkar was at his supreme best, with an unbeaten 71 of 48 deliveries. He thrashed Ishant to all the parts of the ground. Ishant had a sorry The two wikets were due to excellent catches taken by Ganguly. The catch to dismiss young Tiwary who made a brisk 30 of 24,was an Album material. Shikar Dhawan started brilliantly and made a reasonable 23 of 21. Satish towards the end made a strokeful 21 of 11. I have been watching Satish both in the ICL as well as IPL now. He is a compact all rounder, and an excellent fielder to boot.

Mumbai Indians are riding high at this point and will be the team to beat.

IPL3. Day 11. Exxxtraaa Innings _ Industrialisation IPL's next Mantra

Breaking News : 2 new IPL teams cost more than 8 earlier squads together.

Sahara India gets Pune for Rs.1702 crores and Rendezvous bags Kochi for Rs 1533 Cr. The auction of eight teams on Jan 2008 brought in Rs.2853 crores. The two franchisees have won the bid at Rs.3235 crores between them. Favourites Adani group and Videocon were pipped by the Sahara group and a consortium of real estate players brought together by Union minister Shashi Tharoor under the banner of Rendezvous Sports.

Moral of the story

IPL undoubtedly is an excellent business venture for BCCI la Modi.
Whether the franchisees make money or not is secondary. the gainer definitely is IPL .
Now BCCI and IPL management can look at becoming global by manufacturing Air crafts, Automobiles, Engineering goods, get in to infrastructure, and perhaps look at taking over Indian railways. Mamtaji watch out

To line up further free funds, they need to go public and offer their shares for a good market price. Merchant Bankers are u listening ? With so many die hard fans ( including me), the offer will probably create an all time unbreakable record. May be in due course they can be national decision makers leading to international decision making. Sharad Saheb are u listening.

Since all the cricket fans are likely to become share holders, with the dividend paid, they could reinvest in IPL tickets. Game for the enthusiast and revenue for IPL. It is a Win Win situation.
Franchisees also gain if not with monitory profits, thru trillion viewership publicity. Just look at the publicity for Preity, Shilpa, Sharukh, Juhi , who would have faded in to oblivion otherwise :-)

Viewership comments are welcome and let us take this to many. After all Bharat's growth is our growth :-)

IPL3. Day 10. Match 16. Chennai Super Kings Vs Kings XI

Kings XI Punjab 136 for 8 tied with Chennai Super Kings 136 for 7. Punjab wins in the super over.

A very mediocre match played on a very slow pitch. For the first time bowlers particularly spinners were in the limelight from both the sides. Batting first Kings XI riding on a 82 run partnership in 10 overs by Yuvi and Irfan finished at 136 for 8. There were no other noteworthy contribution. Murli bowled beautifully to finish his 4 overs with 16 runs and 3 wickets. Murli's magic is back in IPL3 and augurs well for Srilanka. Their players Angelo, Vas, Malinga, Murli have done extremely well till now and can only get better as T20. world cup nears.Morkel with 2 for 23 and Balaji with 1 for 29 were other wicket takers for CSK.

In spite of a 65 run opening stand, Hayden making 33 of 24 and Parthiv Patel making 57 of 55, the rest did nothing of worth. The last over of the game bowled by Irfan and faced by Albie Morkel and Ashwin had a first ball edged four, two byes, single and another edge for two, brought the scores level with one ball to go. Ashwin hit the last one right in to the mid off's throat, leaving the game tied and in for the super over. Again the spinners Powar and Chawla bowled well in tandem. Juon Theron, playing his first match bowled with nagging accuracy to finish with 2 for 17.

In the super over bowled by Theron, Hayden wielding the Mongoose, was bowled first ball, Raina ran two, slogged a six and got caught in the fifth delivery. CSK lost out the chance to play the sixth delivery and finished with 9.

To make ten, Jayawardane slogged the first ball of Murli for a six and promptly got caught of the second. In came Yuvi and a dot ball left the match poised at 4 to get of three. Yuvi reverse swept the fourth for a four and Kings XI got on board with two points.

Though looked exciting and went the distance, the match was of a poor quality with unimaginative play by both the sides. Is too much cricket too soon, taking the toll ? Will IPL T20 turn out to be a circus in due course and not a serious play ? Let us wait and watch.

The fact remains that IPL T 20 is really not the platform to select World cup T 20. The Aussies and English have a better system. I wish I am proved wrong in my assumptions.

IPL3. Day 10. Match 15. Deccan Chargers Vs Delhi Daredevils

It is the day 10 of IPL3, and unlike the earlier two versions, no clear cut position has emerged in terms of top finishers. No one team seem to be a clear favourite.

In the 15 th match of IPL3, Deccan Chargers started sedately.Delhi Daredevils used as many as four spinners in the first six overs. This strategy did have an effect at the start. Manish Mishra misread a beautiful Googly by Amit Mishra and was gone in over one.

However Gilchrist and Gibbs started their usual launch. Gilchrist was severe on the spinners, repeatedly sweeping Nagar for consecutive fours, and Sarabjit Ladda in the next over for couple of boundaries, before skying a Ladda Googly to the keeper. Gibbs was very severe on Nannes, launching a six over long on, slashing a four over point and an on drive for four.

Gilchrist made 24 of 14 and Gibbs 31 of 24. Symmonds batted in his usual style for a well made 35 of21. What really made up the score of 171 for 6 for the Chargers was the 60 runs quickfire partnership between Rohit Sharma & Suman. Rohit made 40 of 30 and Suman 29 of 19. Amit Mishra and Uday Yadav bowled well for DD. Mishra finished at 1 for 12 in 3 and yadav none for 16 in 4.

Delhi daredevils lost Sehwag early. Warner made a strokeful 57 of 33. AB D Villiers made a sedate 27 of 24. The Skipper Dinesh Kartik played a gem of an innings , and at 131 for 4 it looked any body's game. Great 17th and 19th overs by Symmonds and top finish 20th over by Vas sealed the game in Chargers favour. Daredevils folded to a 161 for 9, Kartik holing out to Symmonds, for a well made 46 of 26. The Superman Vas finished with 4-0-21-1 and Symmonds 4-0-21-3. Lesser said about RP and Ojha the better. Deccan Chargers won the match by 10 runs & are now at the top of the table with six points

Any Takers ?? :-)

IPL3. Exxxtraaa Innings _ Healthcare the talk of the day

Wow look at the increasing injury list. Doctors & Physios are continuously at work.

Such a situation also brings in creative ideas for IPL4.

Here are some.

1. BCCI can construct their own hospitals preferably with in the stadia. Result value addition and more revenue.

2. Big names in Hospital Industry, Pharmas and Health care can now vie for franchise/ownership of teams. Result Uninterrupted business, and mileage

3. All BCCI & Member Associations can have free or subsidised medical care.

4. IPL commissioner can now look at getting in to bigger global league. Result higher rating.

5. Players can relax a bit, since they do not have to travel for medicare.

The ideas can be endless. Do u have something to add :-) :-)

IPL3. Day 9. Match 14. Mumbai Indians Vs Royal Challengers

The rampaging Mumbai Indians were done in in one over of Vinay Kumar. He grabbed the limelight by removing Sachin Tendulkar, Dwayne Bravo and Ambati Rayudu in one over.

Though benifited by excellent start overs by Steyn at his best and Praveen with his prodigious swing & changes of pace, and aggressive spin bowling by Anil Kumble,Vinay's one over turned the game Royal Challenger's way, and left them a manageable total to chase.

Jaysurya perished early and Tare followed him quickly. Tendulkar missed the line & his leg stumpp got knocked over for a well made 25 of 22. The flood gate opened during the over Bravo was out LBW to a ball that kept a bit low and Ambadi smartly taken by Boucher of Vinay.

Reasonable displays by young Tiwary 25 of 21, Satish 24 of 22 and Pollard 21 of 19 added up to Mumbai Indians total. Lusty blows at the end over by Zaheer 23 of 9, swelled Mumbai Indians score to a reasonable 151 for 9. With Zaheer, Malinga,Harbhajan, Bravo, Pollard, Satish and Jaysurya, Mumbai Indians had enough armoury to defend the total. MI also had the home advantage.

RC had different ideas. Kallis and Pandey blasted MI bowlers to all corners. Pandey was taken for a well made 40 of 27, which set the pace. Kallis remained unbeaten on a brisk 65 of 53 and the Challengers finished the match in the 19th over with 155 for three and winning by seven wickets. Zaheer bowled with venom for his 1 for 18 of 4. Malinga had no wicket against his name but was his usual best.

This match still could have gone to the wire , but for unimaginative bowling by Harbhajan. If some one have watched him closely, he has become more angular in his run up and the Doosra is totally out of his fold. He tries to thrive on the top spinner more, and hence tends to be faster of the pitch . Present day batsmen are more with eye hand coordination and plays the ball through the line with the full swing of the bat. Top spinner is not the weapon in such circumstances.

Bajji must get back to his basics on use of width of the crease & use of the Loop which will give him the spin. Currently he is the most over rated player and does not really deserve a place.

With World Cup T20 round the corner, India is still without an effective bowling combination.

Given a choice, I would go for Zaheer,Praveen, Vinay, Sangwan, Amit Mishra, Ashwin; Murli Kartik to complete the bowling line up. How I would love to have Kumble in the line up. On batting, we are so strong, we could probably select a dozen sides of batsmen.

Signing off for the day and will be back on Day 10 with more .

IPL3. Day 9 Match 13. Rajasthan Royals Vs Kolkatta Knoght Riders

Rajasthan Royals finally on board. A win is always welcome & if the win is through a totally professional approach, it is all the more satisfying. Royals did exactly that. Playing at the Ahemedabad pitch where the ball was coming very slowly of the pitch, the Royals put up a very decent score of 168 losing 7 wickets. The new players Fazal and Adam Voges scored freely for 31 of 23 and 37 of 22. Young Junjunwala continues to impress me. His display of 45 of 36 was faultless and most of the shots were pure cricketing shots out of the cricketing book. Here is a star in the making. Yousuf Pathan failed again and made 15 of 14 before holing out to Hodge of Dinda.
Dinda bowled his heart out taking 2 for 28 with a first ball LBW of Lumb. Ishant as usual was expensive, but took wickets finishing at 2 for 33. Bond took 2 for 32 and the others ran thru their overs.
KKR was never in them game. Contributions from Pujara 29 of 25, Hodge 36 of 34 and Ganguly 33 of 24 made up the score of 134 for 5 in twenty. Royals won by a comfortable 34 runs. All the Royal bowlers were very disciplined and bowled to a line and length consistently. Pathan bowled a brilliant spell of 4 over taking 2 for 23. Trivedi and Munaf contributed with a wicket each. Tait bowled with fire and fast. Great show Royals. Do not let down the momentum.
In the second match, two top of the board teams Royal Challengers are taking on Mumbai Indians. This will be a closely fought match and will go down the wire.

IPL3. Day.9. Exxxtraaa Innings - Mongoose or a Mace

The talk after day 8, CSK Vs DD match was Haydo's Mongoose.

The Mongoose, a new batting weapon of mass destruction, which Hayden has been using in practice, but was reluctant to use in a match, was unleashed on poor Delhi Daredevils. Result a whirlwind 93 of 43 balls, with 9x4 and 7x6.

So much is talked about the mongoose, a bat which boasts of 43% longer handle and 33% shorter blade with 5 cms thick base. Ultimately a man has to wield it precisely. News made it appear the mongoose did the trick. Poor Hayden all his efforts went a waste.

Talking of the mongoose, and its innovation, I see nothing new. Does it not remind you of Bheema's mace, wielded effectively in all games including war games? In fact BCCI should contest this and register for a patent. Thereafter this could be effectively marketed by BCCI and the proceeds used for promoting HOCKEY
Here is a picture from the scriptures to prove my point. Bheema has just completed a full swing. Sharad Saheb and Manohar Saheb are u listening. :-)

IPL3. Day.8. Match 12. Deccan Chargers Vs Kings XI. Punjab

Kings XI, the most glamourous team in IPL3 at the start, are at 3 played 3 lost.Deccan Chargers ran through a reasonable score of 164 for 8, which by no means was very tough.Useful contributions were again from the old stars Gilchrist,Symmonds and Gibbs.Yuvi and Pathan bowled well for 2for21 and 1for16.

As usual Kings XI started badly with Sangakara & Bisla scoring nothing.Yuvi &Jayawardane, did nothing of note. Is Yuvi Carrying an Injury ??. Vas again had a 2 wicket haul. He is the most impressive bowler in IPL3 and definitly will be in reckoning for Sri Lankan World T20. Irfan Pathan played a lusty innings of 60 in 29 deliveries. His innings gave a bit of respectebility
and Kings XI lost the match by just 6 runs finishing at 158 for 8.

Keep your chin up Kings XI, these are still early days.

IPL3 Day 8 Match 11- Delhi Daredevils Vs Chennai Super Kings

The match to watch. Both teams were without some star power. Gambhir for DD and Dhoni for CSK.
Sehwag was at his usual best hammering 74 of 38 balls.Had it not been for sweet knocks of 32 in 22 by Mithun and 21 in 9 by Bhatia,DD would have folded for a low under 150 score. They however finished at a healthy 185 for 6.

The Captaincy brought the best in Raina, and he held three brilliant catches.Balaji & Murli took two wickets each.

Today was Hayden's day. He blasted a match winning 93 supported
well by Raina, and CSK won the match by five wickets finishing at 190for5.
Hayden was declared he Man of the Match. Delhi Daredevils have lost
back to back games and are in the back foot in spite of a dream start
to the tournament. What is happening to Dilshan. He is nowhere near
the Dilshan we know.

Oldies have been performing well in IPL 3. Kumble, Tendulkar, Gilchrist, Hayden,Jaysurya & Vas to name a few. Is it right concluding T20 is only an young man's game. The elders have proved T20 is also a strategic game like Test Matches.
We are in for an exciting two more weeks of IPL3.

IPL3 Day8- Exxxtraaa Innings - 'Oh' these commercials

On view Harsha with a smart hairdo ( Harsha What's the secret ?).He will look even cuter with a moustache and french beard. Ask Preity,Shilpa,Katrina & Deepika if you want.

On the commercials once again,Hyundai & Idea will lose more customers withthe unimaginative commercial display with Abhishek & Shahrukh.Try this out.
Let them jig a bit along with the cheer girls, with Idea & Hyundai BillBoards.

Both the commercial rating as well as product sales will shoot up :-)

signing off now & will be back again with serious cricket.

IPL3. Day 7 Match 10. Rajasthan Royals Vs Royal Challengers

3on3 for Rajasthan Royals and Praveen Kumar.RR playing and loosing three and Praveen getting three wickets in three balls, the first hat trick of IPL3. Kumble won the toss and elected to field. He did everything right from ball one. RR folded for a meager 92

Everything is wrong with Rajasthan Royals lineup. When players like Tendulkar, Kallis, Sehwag,Dhoni are the main stay for their respective teams and supported by equally good players, Royals main stay is Yousuf Pathan who is all at sea with short pitched deliveries bowled to the rib cage. Even an average bowler like Vinaykumar, troubled him. He did not know where his stumps were. He prodded, danced, had two lives and finally perished for an ill made 26. Not to mention about other batsmen in RR line up. They appear to be a disjointed lot. Lesser said the better.

From the Rajasthan Royals side the most pleasing thing was Ms:Shilpa Shetty with her most beautiful smile.

The young man Kumble was at his marvelous best with the ball with 3 for 10 of 3.5. Kumble reconsider your retirement at least for World Cup T20.

Royal Challengers finished the match in style scoring 93 runs with out losing any wickets in the 11th over.

After the first ten matches, it appears, Mumbai Indians,Delhi Daredevils,Royal Challengers and either Chennai Super Kings or Kolkatta Knight Riders, will vie for semifinal berth.

IPL3 Day 7 - Exxxtraaa Innings - To women power

We are at the end of week one of IPL3. Serious cricket reporting will be post match. Exxxtraaa Innings will be a pre match comment.

This IPL has lost some of the earlier charm. Where is that sweet ever smiling Mandira

When women reservation is the front page news everywhere, IPL3 has not kept in line with current trend.

Commercial breaks are becoming boring. It appears as if, the show is for commercial breaks with a bit of cricket in between. Overdose of anything will kill the event itself.

Persuasive form of communication is a basic marketing practice. But over persuasion through a visual media interrupting a good game will lead to a market break.

People who matter in IPL need to think about this :-(

IPL3. Day6 Match 9. Mumbai Indians Vs Delhi Daredevils

A totally one sided affair. Delhi Daredevils won the toss and opted to field. Mumbai Indians riding on a fine 63 of 32 deliveries from Tendulkar and 61 of 31 deliveries from young Tiwary finished strongly at 218 for 7. Every DD bowlers were taken apart excepting Nennes, with a reasonable four overs for 35 runs. Ladda took 2 for 44.

Gambhir had to get back to pavilion at the beginning of the match itself with a groin injury.

Sehwag was taken after 26 of 16 balls and Mahroof after 28 of 18 balls. No one else did anything of note, and Gambhir did not bat. DD were 120 for 9 when the innings was terminated at 16.3 overs, giving a comfortable 98 run victory to Mumbai Indians. Jayasurya, Bravo and Harbajan finished with 2 wickets each.

Mumbai Indians after the arrival of Bravo and Pollard appear to be the Team to beat and with the best chance to win IPL3. However these are still early days.
Too many players are in the Injury list at the start itself. Were they carrying the injuries, or is it too much of cricket ? Brett Lee. Graeme Smith, Mascrenhas,Duminy and now Gambhir. Let us hope there are no further breakdowns.

IPL 3. Day 5 Match 8. Chennai Super Kings Vs Kolkotta Knight Riders

Chennai Super Kings comfortably beat KKR by 55 runs, to get in to the third slot in ranking after 8 matches. After a slow start, CSK finished strongly with 164 for 3 wkts, with a superb unbeaten 66 of 33 balls by Dhoni, well supported by Badrinath with a well made 43 of 33 balls. Ishant was again expensive, with 1 for 38 of 4. KKR started badly, loosing 2 wkts with 8 on board, and kept loosing wickets and folded up at 109 all out. Infact they would not have touched even 100 but for some lusty blows by Murli Kartik.Ganguly again prodded for his 11 of 22.

IPL3. Day 5 Match 7- Kings XI vs Royal Challengers

A High scoring match. For Kings XI Punjab, Bisla & Bopara gave a great start. Bisla made 75 of 51 balls and Bopara an unbeaten 77 of 50 Balls. Kings XI finished at a healthy 203 for 3. In a spirited reply Royal Challengers won the match by 8 wkts finishing at 204 for 2 in 18.5 overs.
The turning point of the match was Sreesanth's 13th over conceding 25 runs and Sharma's 18th over conceding 23 runs. Overall all the Kings XI bowlers bowled without a clue. Nothing however can be taken away from the blistering 89 of 55 balls by Kallis, Gusty 51 of 21 balls by Uthappa and an entertaining 38 of 26 balls by Pandey. Bowlers from both the sides better forget this match.

Monday, March 15, 2010

IPL3, Day 4 Match 6:Delhi Daredevils vs Rajasthan Royals

2 in 2 for Delhi Daredevils. RR could never recover from a poor start and folded out at 141 for 6. Jhunjunwala making a compact unbeaten 53. As usual Nannes bowled a nagging length, with the young Sangwan doing a good job 0f 1 for 20. DD rode on an excellent 75 of 34 deliveries by mercurial shewag. Kartik finished the match in the 18th over with a workmanlike 23.

IPL 3 Day 3 Match 5 :Chennai Super Kings vs Deccan Chargers

Lot was expected from Chennai Super Kings. But Deccan Chargers had all the say. DC finished well at 190 for 4 with excellent contributions from Gilchrist, Gibbs an Symmonds up the order and Sharma giving the finishing touches. CSK folded at 159 for 9, loosing by 31 runs. Vas was again at his best with 3/21, and another 2 wkt haul in an over. He seems to be flourishing with age. Srilanka, keep him in the loop for world T20.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

IPL T20 Day 3: KKR vs Royal Challengers

2on2 for KKR. RC plodded to a 136 for 7 with contribution from Kallis . The Srilankan Angelo was in prime form with the ball for a 4/19.Murli Kartik again bowled well for 2/22. Riding on fifties from Hodge and Tiwary, KKR won without much hickup by 7 wkts. Ganguly again prodded for his 20+ before holing out to a short pitched delivery. Will Kumble never fade? 0/19 and a memorable bowling.

IPL T20 Day 2: Delhi Daredevils Vs Kings XI.

Drab affair. Patient 56 by Bopara, and KXI finished with 142 for 9. Nannes as usual was at his best with 2 for 12 in 4. For DD, mercurial Shewag,Dilshan ; ABD failed. Gambhir with an assured 73 and the youngster Mithun carried them thru for a 5 wkt victory.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals

MI won by 4 runs through an excellent final Malinga over. MI made 212 for 6 with fifties by Rayudu and Tiwary. At 4 down for 75 in 9 overs, it looked a lost case for RR.
A blistering 100 of 37 balls by Yousuf and 41 of 29 Balls by Dogra almost took RR thru. Two crucial runouts of Yousuf thru satish and Dogra thru Malinga decided the match in MI favour.what a match.

IPL T20 Day 1 : KKR vs DC

KKR finally won. Ganguly appears to be has been. It was the Srilankan to the rescue with Owasis. Front line Indian bowlers got plastered. Imagine RP Singh & Ishant Sharma are still in contention as lead bowlers. God save us with some good bowlers. The young Sardar Jaskaran Singh of Deccan Chargers, discarded Murli Kartik and Ohja did good job of bowling and need a closer look for T20 World Cup. Srikanth are u listening??
