IPL3. Day 10. Match 16. Chennai Super Kings Vs Kings XI

Kings XI Punjab 136 for 8 tied with Chennai Super Kings 136 for 7. Punjab wins in the super over.

A very mediocre match played on a very slow pitch. For the first time bowlers particularly spinners were in the limelight from both the sides. Batting first Kings XI riding on a 82 run partnership in 10 overs by Yuvi and Irfan finished at 136 for 8. There were no other noteworthy contribution. Murli bowled beautifully to finish his 4 overs with 16 runs and 3 wickets. Murli's magic is back in IPL3 and augurs well for Srilanka. Their players Angelo, Vas, Malinga, Murli have done extremely well till now and can only get better as T20. world cup nears.Morkel with 2 for 23 and Balaji with 1 for 29 were other wicket takers for CSK.

In spite of a 65 run opening stand, Hayden making 33 of 24 and Parthiv Patel making 57 of 55, the rest did nothing of worth. The last over of the game bowled by Irfan and faced by Albie Morkel and Ashwin had a first ball edged four, two byes, single and another edge for two, brought the scores level with one ball to go. Ashwin hit the last one right in to the mid off's throat, leaving the game tied and in for the super over. Again the spinners Powar and Chawla bowled well in tandem. Juon Theron, playing his first match bowled with nagging accuracy to finish with 2 for 17.

In the super over bowled by Theron, Hayden wielding the Mongoose, was bowled first ball, Raina ran two, slogged a six and got caught in the fifth delivery. CSK lost out the chance to play the sixth delivery and finished with 9.

To make ten, Jayawardane slogged the first ball of Murli for a six and promptly got caught of the second. In came Yuvi and a dot ball left the match poised at 4 to get of three. Yuvi reverse swept the fourth for a four and Kings XI got on board with two points.

Though looked exciting and went the distance, the match was of a poor quality with unimaginative play by both the sides. Is too much cricket too soon, taking the toll ? Will IPL T20 turn out to be a circus in due course and not a serious play ? Let us wait and watch.

The fact remains that IPL T 20 is really not the platform to select World cup T 20. The Aussies and English have a better system. I wish I am proved wrong in my assumptions.
