IPL3. Day12. Match 18. Royal Challengers Vs Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field. Excellent spells by Morkel, Tyagi and Murli, were supported poorly in the field. The fielding was school boyish. I am sorry even the school children field better. Gallore of dropped catches, worst being Ashwin and Murli Vijay, unimaginative end overs by Balaji and Ashwin , helped Uthappa to slogg away 68 in 38 balls. From 130 for 5 in the 18th over, RC finished at 171 for 5. The last twelve deliveries read 4,6,6,6,1,1,1,1,6,1,6,2.

When the initial overs were intelligently bowled by Morkel,Tyagi and Murli, Raina should have retained the last end overs for the better bowlers in the day. Any way the damage was done, and CSK faced a daunting task of 172 runs in 20 overs to gain two pints.
It appeared Kallis was well caught of a fine nick in the first over faced from Morkel. The noise around the stadium was immense and the umpire did not hear the fine sound of the nick, which was reasonably clear in the video footage. Kallis however did not last long and had a lacklustre day stroking 19 of 17.

Failure of Kallis exposed the shortcomings of the middle order. Uthappa should have been taken when on 5 dropped by Ashwin at long off. Had Uthappa gone early, RC would not have reached 100 even. Dravid made a scratchy 14. Kohli played well for his 24 of 15 before getting stumped of Murali's magic. Morgan perished early before the Uthappa/Boucher partnership hammered out the bowlers all round the field.

When Chennai Super Kings came out to bat, perhaps they left behind their brains in their respective kits. Most disorganised batting display. An excellent captaincy by the evergreen Kumble. Steyn at his express best, Vinay workman like, Praveen with his usual control at & Kumble at Chennai Super Kings folded to a pathetic 135 for 7 leaving the Royals victorious by 36. runs.
Srikanth & Co will really find it difficult to select a team for World T20, from the performances of the probables in IPL3. They five wise men probably have to base their selection on past performances and the fitness factors. Do not be broken hearted, if even Bangladesh throws some surprises.
