Champions League 2010. Day.7. Match.10. Mumbai Indians vs Guyana


Mumbai Indians 184 for 4, beat Guyana 153 for 6 by 31 runs. Pollard's mercurial 72 of 30 deliveries, kept alive, Mumbai Indians chances of making it to the semis.

Played under slight drizzle, the match at Kingsmead turned out to be a spectators delight. Mumbai Indians winning the toss promptly elected to bat. Dhavan and Tendulkar, made a steady start and added 82 in 11 overs, when Tendulkar was consumed by Bishoo for an uncharacteristic 48 of 42. Pollard joined Dhawan and the second wicket partnership just added 16 runs in 19 deliveries, Dhawan labouring in the most crucial mid overs. Dhawan fell for 39 of 59, which came in as a blessing in disguise for MI. Tiwary departed for a duck facing two balls. Pollard and Rayudu added 53 of just fifteen deliveries, from over 16 to 18.3, when Rayudu fell just making 4. Duminy joined Pollard and played a sweet 14 of seven and Pollard continued his assault and remained not out on 71 of 38, comprising of nine sixers, with a six clearing 128 meters. Bishoo with 3 for 34 was the pick of the bowlers. E.A.Crandon took the other wicket to fall.

Pollard's innings took the wind out of the Guyana team, and they finished at 153 for 6 to lose by 31 runs. Sarwan 46 of 55, Naresh Deonarain 27 of 21, Barnwell 24 of 20 and R.T.Crandon 16 of 20, played well. There was a marked improvement in Mumbai Indian's Fielding and catching. Jhonty seems to have worked wonders in the fielding area. Zaheer 1 for 17, Malinga 1 for 28, Bravo 2 for 18 & Harbhajan 2 for 33, shared the spoils.

Mumbai Indians now need to win their match against Royal Challengers convincingly and hope the other matches go to their expectations for a slim semi final berth.
