ICC-WC 2011 - Men in Blue- a right choice.

No major surprises in the Indian team for WC 2011. Piyush was however a surprise choice over Ojha.

The five wise men probably looked at a leg spinning variation, since Yuvi could well take over as a left arm spinning option. Chawla is also a better bat and a good fielder compared to Ojha. But why not Amit Mishra, who is better than Chawla in the bowling front, and as good in batting and fielding.

There have been quite a few debates on the second wicket keeper in the team. In a team of fifteen, a second wicket keeper would be a luxury. The selectors would have thought over this, and perhaps one of the batsmen selected is a reasonable wicket keeper. Who is it ? Is it Virat Kohli ??

Many past players opined, Sreesanth would have been a better option over Praveen. In Sub continent, a team requires a bowler accurate in line (rather than length). Praveen is miles ahead of Sreesanth in this context.. May be Sreesanth is a better option in seam position of the wicket. But the wickets in sub continent, would be slow, even, and the swing through seam position only will not help. Praveen can swing of the air, due to his side arm action, and control over the ball. What he lacks in speed is duly compensated by accuracy. He is also a better bat.
Better luck to Sreesanth. He would definitely be our first choice bowler, when India plays in lively pitches in Australia, West Indies and England. May be resting him for WC 2011 is a conscious decision to preserve him for these important tours.

All the others selected themselves. The team is best that could be selected. Wish them luck and cheer them all the way till Dhoni holds the World Cup 2011.

  1. K Srikanth, i think is biased towards ‘R Ashwin’ This is absolutely rubbish selection.
Leaving Rohit out of the squad is blunder of the mistakes as he is big match player, this is WC we are playing. Remember his match winning efforts along wid T’dlkar in Aus for Tr-series final and t last yr Ranji finals n SF....there are some players who play thru when others fail, he is such kind of batsmen sim to Lakshman for test. Problem is, he should have been given a more opportunities, he is next best of Indian cricket considering the old legs retiring soon.

Piyush is brave selection but again he should have given enough opportunities before getting him into WC. But he has to be shown big time confidence by Dhoni. I rate Ojha wud hv been the most suitable person tho. If Yuvraj can compensate for Ojha, so would have been Rohit/Suresh Raina/Shewag for R Ashwin...IPL is not big match game, pressure situations in WC easily takes toll on performance of great players so I do not understand the basis his selection. Feel very sorry for him and Rohit. You can’t count on Yusuf/Virat and then we hv less bench strength in batting dept...so Rohit shud hv been selected ahead of Ashwin...remember you hv part time spin option in him, a terrific filder, and Shewag, Raina, Yuvraj cud hv been all supportive along wid him in bowling dept.... Also Sreeshant shud hv been selected instead of Munaf (Munaf is weak in filed and brings less energy to team, in WC, every player should look confident, Munaf brings in (–)ve energy to team, Sree on other hand is aggressive and you have to carry some aggression into WC)

Praveen is smart bowler only born to play limited overs matches. He should play all matches along with Zaheer. Only problem is late overs he has some probs bt improved lately on it. Hope he goes well.
If we lose world cup due to second spinner, blame it to Srikanth, I feel leaving Rohit, he is out of senses !!

Anyways Best luck to team India !!
