ICC-CWC-2011. Match.36. Gr.B. England vs West Indies

Erratic England 243 all out in 48 .4 overs, beat West Indies 225 all out in 44.4 overs, by 18 runs, to keep their chances of a QF berth alive in CWC 2011.

Chidambaram stadium, is known for its slow and low bounce of the wicket, particularly as the match progresses and ball gets older. It behaved exactly as predicted. Batting was not a joy on this wicket, and England did reasonably well, to finish at 243 runs, with bits and pieces performance from Strauss 31 of 39, Prior 21 of 21, Trott 47 of 38, Bell 27 of 48, Wright 44 of 57 and Bresnen 20 of 27. West Indies bowler's added to the tally with a bag full of 22 extras.

Russell taken for plenty in his initial overs came back well to finish with 8-0-49-4. Bishoo the debutant, bowled intelligently, using the prevailing conditions to finish with an impressive 10-0-34-3. Roach took two wickets for 34 runs.

West Indies looked very good at times and pedestrian at times, to go down for 228 in 44.4 overs. Surprisingly , they never opted for the batting power play. One thought at 220 for six, with Russell and Sarwan well settled in the 41st over, the batting power play would have made a whale of a difference. Between 222 when Russell fell in 41.4 overs and end of match 225 all out in 44.4, nothing really happened other than wickets falling in a jiffy. Sammy is a captain by default and not by choice. One can only feel sorry for him. Any way for the records, Gayle made 43 of 21, Sammy 41 of 29, Sarwan 31 of 68, Pollard 24 of 27 and Russell 40 of 46. Swan 10-1-36-3, Tredwell 10-2-48-2 and Bopara 8.4-2-22-2. throttled the West indies at the post.

Luck more than action has favoured England till now. Will they turn the table if they qualify for the next stage ?
