Match 40. Gr.A. Australia vs Pakistan.
Australia's unbeaten record since 1999 World Cup was broken by Pakistan, who were Australia's nemesis in 1999 too. Australia batting first, were bowled out for 176 in 46.4 overs, by some sustained seam bowling by Umar Gul 7.4-1-30-3 and Abul Razzaq 4-0-8-2. Afridi, Abdur Rehman, Wahab Riaz & Md.Hafeez picked a wicket each. Haddin 42 of 80, Clarke 34 of 48 and SPD Smith 25 of 32 contributed with the bat for the Aussies.

The Premadasa wicket was getting slower, and Pakistan had to be at its best to get to the winning post. Kamran Akmal 28 of 27 and Asad Shafiq 46 of 81 steadily built a partnership. Younis Khan 31 of 42 and Umar Akmal 44 of 59 took them nearer to the goal and Abdul Razzaq finished the match with 20 of 24. Bret Lee was the only bowler, at his impressive best with 8-1-28-4

A good match, played very well by the Pakistanis, exposed the limitations of the Australian batting. What is ailing Ponting? He should be showing his batting prowess in the field instead of the dressing room.
